Description | Ukraine occupies a fairly significant place in the global ranking for the area of agricultural land (in the TOP-10, occupying the 6th place in the world) and owns 43.37 million hectares (ie 2.31% of the world's arable land area). The soil cover of the country is characterized by significant variegation both in terms of morpho-genetic and qualitative characteristics, which increases the number of objects for monitoring the state of the environment. The activity of certified agrochemical laboratories expands the possibility of taking these features into account. In particular, the long-term experience of PLT LAB, accredited in accordance with the requirements of ISO / IES 17025, which includes cooperation with about 2,000 agricultural enterprises of Ukraine, allowed us to analyze within 1,850,000 hectares of land areas! The existing database of available analytical material of the laboratory, obtained within a certain region and characteristic of a specific type of soil, allows to assess the level of its fertility, to compare it with the productivity of crops and to develop recommendations for rational land use. |
Project Description | Climate change has both positive and negative consequences for agricultural production. The prolongation of the growing season is leading to the spread of crops that were not traditional until recently. There are practically no areas with limited thermal resources for growing heat-loving crops (corn, soybeans). At the same time, rapid and excessive heat accumulation contributes to the premature ripening of various crops and can lead to a decrease in yields, which require additional irrigation water to stabilize. Changes in the structure of sown areas lead to an intensification of the anthropogenic load on ecosystems in the form of pesticides, fertilizers, and depletion of the soil's organic component. The uneven and multidirectional nature of climate change in Ukraine necessitates detailed research, particularly at the local level, to adapt existing nutrition and plant protection systems to the requirements of crops caused by climate change and the need to reduce the negative impact on the environment. In particular: Taking into account soil fertility levels will allow to justify fertilizer application systems for precision, irrigated and organic farming, which will limit excessive or inefficient fertilizer application and unproductive losses of C/N/P, which can be a source of environmental pollution, in particular, fresh water and air; development of a strategy for the use of fertilizers with irrigation water based on their analysis will help prevent pollution of surface and |

Description | Industrial parks offer a unique possibility to find reasonable ways for reusing treated municipal wastewater. Case studies about implemented solutions of reuse are still valuable. On the other hand, untapped chances of symbiotic water management among industrial sites within an industrial park is not well-published issue. Also, green infrastructure measures are not used widely despite their well-known benefits in water resources management. I would like to cooperate with you on an integrated water management project where the role of cooperation with industrial partners is a priority, especially in case of their accumulation in industrial parks. Keywords | desalinization, renewable energy, resilient, marginalized ,women, pastoralists ,climate adaptation |
Description | Pastoralist communities and women in rural arid areas of Kenya face numerous challenges in their daily lives, one of which is accessing clean and safe water. The scarcity of water resources in these areas makes it difficult to obtain adequate water for drinking, sanitation, and agricultural activities. Additionally, the water sources available in these areas are often saline, which can cause health problems such as dehydration, high blood pressure, and kidney damage. Furthermore, women and girls are disproportionately affected by the water crisis in these areas, as they are often responsible for collecting water for their families. This task can be physically demanding, time-consuming, and can even put their safety at risk, especially when they have to travel long distances to access water sources. A solar thermal desalination system can help solve the problem of water salinity in these areas. Solar thermal desalination uses solar energy to evaporate saline water and then collect and condense the resulting clean water vapor. This process removes salt and other contaminants from the water, producing clean and safe drinking water. By using solar thermal desalination, pastoralist communities and women in rural arid areas of Kenya can access clean water more easily and without the need to travel long distances to collect it. This would reduce the physical and safety risks that women and girls face while collecting water and would also improve their health and well-being. |
Project Description | The desalinizer project involves designing and building a system capable of removing salt and other minerals from seawater or brackish water to produce potable or usable water. The project would require a multidisciplinary approach, involving expertise in engineering, capacity development, local industries. The project would involve several stages, including research and feasibility analysis, design and development, testing and optimization, and finally, installation and operation. There will also be capacity building to the communities technically and also on climate resilience. During the design and development phase, the team would need to create detailed specifications for the system, including the dimensions, materials, and performance criteria. The team would also need to consider factors such as cost, ease of maintenance, and scalability for potential future applications. The testing and optimization phase would involve rigorous testing of the system to ensure it meets the desired performance criteria, such as water quality and production rate. The team would need to make adjustments to the system and retest until optimal performance is achieved. Finally, the installation and operation phase would involve installing the desalinizer system in the desired location and ensuring proper operation and maintenance to ensure long-term performance. Overall, a desalinizer project would require a significant investment of time, resources, and expertise. |

Development of the founding idea by Haley Farley and collaborative work with organisations such as Hethel Engineer Centre and the University of East Anglia, to arrive at what is now a complete food growth system. |
Project Description | The key components cosits of: A base bag constructed of black high-strength PVC to maximum heat retention. Sand is placed at base which serves to retain water due to its capacity to become saturated. The inner filter divider bag, that both separates, and allows movement of moisture between, the two compartments therefore allowing the use of seawater for food growth as evaporation removes the salt from the water. A sleeved perforated pipe that spans the diameter of the bag and supplies a constant and adjustable airflow. This additionally acts as a drainage pipe when the bag is overloaded with water such as during extreme weather conditions. Opposing pockets are positioned on the bags outer edge through which water is supplied via funnels straight to the base of outer bag. Copper strip is applied to the perimeter of the bag and acts as a deterrent of slugs and snails this method does not kill these organisms but simply deters them. This system has been reviewed to build to a hydroponics units easily deployed as industrial units up to 50 metres long. This project will fianlise teh design and deployment systems and test them in the field. |

Description | I am passionate about the protection and management of water resources. I graduated Ph.D. in Environmental and Water Sciences at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. I have a Master of Science in Hydrogeology from Addis Ababa University (2010) and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology from Mekelle University (2003). I am a highly motivated and forward-looking professional natural scientist (Pr. Sci. Nat.) in geosciences and water resources. My doctoral research focused on technologies to evaluate alternative water supply sources to augment water scarcity and improve water security in urban coastal cities. Geospatial modeling, the WorldWater model, global climate models downscaled to local scales, and the GIS-based DRASTIC model of the Cape Flats Aquifer System provided results that have been published in peer-reviewed journals (Gintamo, T. T., Mengistu, H., & Kanyerere, T. (2021), Groundwater for Sustainable Development, 15, 100663). My research interests include hydrology, hydrogeology, climate change, geospatial modeling, machine learning, and water quality. I use innovations and technologies such as GIS, remote sensing, Google Earth Engine, and machine learning for water resources studies. I am taking an online course on Earth observation for hydrological analysis with Waternet. This study has led me to focus more on climate and water analysis, mapping, and prediction to develop, design, and implement sustainable water resource management. |
Project Description | Demand for freshwater is expected to continue to increase due to socioeconomic development and population growth. Urbanization and climate change are exacerbating water scarcity in the world's cities. Water management decisions require models to justify, predict, and understand water resource needs and security issues. Data collection is difficult (finances, maintenance, limited human resources, accessibility, security). I believe that scientific research, new technologies, and innovation processes are critical to the sustainable management of freshwater resources. I am interested in the opportunity to join Water4All and the WRC partnership in South Africa as a researcher on the topic of tools for water management in the context of extreme hydroclimatic events. I believe that my good analytical and numerical skills, as well as my ability to analyze large temporal and spatial datasets in geospatial modeling (GIS and Python environment), qualify me to join the project on the management of water resources under changing climate. |

Project Description | Hydroponics is based on growing plants in an inert growth medium so that the plants are provided through the roots with a nutrient solution that is completely balanced in terms of pH in a highly soluble form that makes it easier for the plant to absorb food with minimal effort, unlike traditional agriculture where the roots must search for and extract nutrients from the soil. Even when using organic soil rich in nutrients. The energy expended by the roots in this process could have been used for vegetative growth and fruit production. Hydroponics is a great hope for the production of sustainable organic crops. Accordingly, we want to establish the first project based on hydroponics, which provides an excellent crop throughout the year and of high quality |

Description | Our integrated modelling platform (ARIES) can support efficient monitoring, projection and assessment of impacts on water resources in the context of hydro-climatic extreme events, as well as future climate and socio-economic change. It can also be used to support better understanding of water availability and vulnerability in Europe and their comparative analysis at various spatial and temporal scales, accounting explicitly for key drivers of change (e.g. climate, land cover/use, population/demographics), and providing insights into systemic interactions between climate change, land surface, storm events and groundwater hydrology, water engineering, human systems, and water quality-quantity inter-dependencies. Meanwhile, it can support stakeholders’ better policy making and water management decisions by raising awareness on individual and collective risks and impacts under alternative futures (e.g. future hotspots of water scarcity and droughts; adverse impacts on ecological flows and water dependent ecosystems), helping the creation of a shared vision of key challenges and opportunities that European policy needs to tackle. Besides, it can support the activities of EU and global initiatives on open data and interoperability, with a special focus on FAIR principles, INSPIRE and the Interoperability Strategy for the Next Generation of Water Accounting, and further integration of Earth Observation products, including Copernicus and GEOSS services, in technological frameworks |
Project Description | Our would like to join a project to develop an important tool for policy making to support improved monitoring and understanding of the state and long-term trends of water resources quantity and quality, as well as of flows between the environment and economy, and flows between economic sectors, and collaborate effectively across different temporal and spatial scales. We want to design an open, distributed, extendable, interoperable and dynamic framework, which will be provided as an open source, semantic web-based application built on the UN Artificial Intelligence Environment & Sustainability platform (ARIES), following internationally accepted principles and standards, including UN SEEA-Water. The platform will be the key engine for the development of water quantity and quality accounts over the boundaries of a specified hydrological or administrative unit and for a specified time period. The adopted technical approach is strongly data-driven and less dependent on high-complexity modelling, synthesising inputs from international and national reporting streams, remote sensing data and models. It will also integrate probabilistic, stochastic and machine learning approaches for data analytics and timeseries manipulation. Different model modules will conduct accounting of water quantity and quality, and generate indicators addressing climate risks (e.g. aridity, heatwaves), water scarcity, droughts, water efficiency, water quality, ecological flows, and flood risk. |

We aim to find alternatives of adapting rainwater harvesting systems to cities as macro decisions and design strategies in holistic way. |
Project Description | Climate change is at the top of the agenda of countries today as a multidimensional crisis that has ecological, economic and social consequences on a global scale. According to the Fifth Assessment Report of the Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), water crises as a result of heavy rains and drought, which are inconsistent and unpredictable both spatially and temporally, have been identified as one of the most important issues that will affect urban resilience in adaptation to climate change (World Economic Forum, 2016). In addition to the increasing population in urban areas, the possibilities of floods and droughts caused by the impact of climate change increase the pressures on water resources. It also reveals the necessity of developing "Water Management" and "Water Sensitive" strategies in the future plans of cities. Rainwater harvesting emerges as an important strategy that will contribute to the protection of existing water resources, the development of alternative water resources, the use and dissemination of technologies compatible with the ecological environment, the creation of sustainable water policies and therefore the goals of sustainable development. In addition, the application of rain harvest in urban built-up areas as an alternative to climate change adaptation directly meets the requirements of the Sustainable Development goals 6th target of clean water and sanitation (protection of water resources and development of alternative resources), 11th target sustaina |

Opportunities for Networking | We are open to projects which aims to reduce the effects of climate change in cities an create resilient cities in water systems. Please contact from e-mail and also we can arrange an online meeting.. |

Description | The CLIMERS group was initiated with the TU Wien Science Award 2015 awarded to Wouter Dorigo. Global warming is expected to amplify the global water cycle, which will lead to an increase the frequency and intensity of storms, floods, and droughts. The negative impact of droughts on vegetation will impact future food security and reduce the efficiency of vegetation as a sink of atmospheric carbon-dioxide, thus further exacerbating global warming. However, climate model predictions are uncertain as the long-term effects of drought on vegetation are only poorly understood due to lack of suited observational data. But the recent release of various long-term satellite-based datasets of soil moisture (produced by CLIMERS) and vegetation has created new avenues. The CLIMERS groups will use these datasets to unravel the role of water availability in driving vegetation growth and to assess how climate change has affected this relationship. The results will be used to improve state-of-the-art climate models that support the IPCC climate assessments. |

Keywords | advanced synthetic methodologies; spectroscopic techniques, hybrid materials; biogenic silica |
Description | Over the last 5 years my main activity was related with the implementation of advanced synthetic methodologies and the use of potentiometry and spectroscopic techniques to access the behavior in solution of new compounds, as well as complexes with different metal ions. These skills enable me to access the potential of a compound and apply it in different areas. My research, and established collaborations, was mainly focus on the interface of coordination, medicinal and environmental chemistry, being my main goal the design of new sensors that combine chelators and fluorophores or other spectroscopic probes with a specific response to different analytes, and the use of the different spectroscopic techniques to access the solution behavior of new compounds. In the last two years my research was focus on the preparation of new hybrid materials using, biogenic silica as silicon source. These years were paramount to develop my research not only because it gave me the experience regarding the state-of-the-art in this scientific field, allowed me to increase my network connections, but also allowed me establish collaborations with Portuguese companies. |
Project Description | The project focuses on the valorization and cascading use of biobased waste (BW) in the responsible design of new materials for sensing and catalytic applications. This proposal encourages the research that moves away from the linear “take-make-dispose” approach and proposes new ways in the production and application of new materials. In this proposal a strategy was built with the objective of design and synthesize new physical and chemical sensors and catalysts to be applied in sensing and catalysis applications. This proposal also focuses in the environmental and industrial applications of the obtained building blocks and compounds in paramount areas, namely sensing and catalysis. The development of new physical and chemical sensors will allow to contribute for important areas such as water monitoring, water and soil remediation, air quality assessments, and other important areas and we hope to contribute for a better knowledge of how to improve and manage these important resources. Regarding the new catalyst we will contribute for the development of this important area, catalysis, that will be paramount in the next years in the development of new biofuels and in obtaining new building blocks from biomass decreasing the need of fossil fuels. |

I have been interested for a long time in sustainable development goals (SDGs) and I am looking forward to help design a project or help writing the proposal of and executing an already conceived project intending to advance the achievement of SDG 6. I can contribute with my medical knowledge and my programming, data / signal analysis and molecular biology skills to the proposal and, if hopefully funded, to write code or run experiments for the execution of the project. |
Project Description | I am reading actively all the documents from the current call (I am very detail-oriented and careful not to miss anything when submitting applications). I am currently learning about all sort of topics concerning SDG 6, and reviewing everything I have covered during my curriculum related to healthy water consumption. In the same manner, I am learning how the scientific methods I have learned can be applied into projects that help solving the problems of the call. I am looking forward to collaborating with you. |
Opportunities for Networking | I have worked in many laboratories of Mexico, US, Canada, Germany and Switzerland. Therefore I am very connected with the scientific community in several universities or research institutes. To mention some of them: Columbia University Medical Center in New York, Houston Medical Center, University of Montreal, Technical University of Munich, Tecnologico de Monterrey, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM). |

Project Description | In the proposed project, it is aimed to perform a high-performance estimation of the river flow general data and the peak flows that occur in the river flow and are very difficult to predict. For this purpose, it is aimed to develop a method using deep neural networks based on multiple data, including parameters that have not been used before in the literature. In addition, it is aimed to increase the estimation performance by analyzing the sudden peaks in the data with the sudden frequency change by using the Instantaneous Frequency (IF) features, VMD, LMD and Hilbert-Huang methods, which use the decomposition method according to the instantaneous frequency characteristics of the data, which has not been used in the literature before, in the estimation of daily river flow data. In the estimation of the peak flows, not only the past flow data of the predicted river is used, but also the flow data of the side rivers feeding this river, the lake level data where the river flows, and the meteorological precipitation, temperature, humidity, evaporation and wind speed data are also aimed to be used in the estimation study. In the project study, which is planned to be realized, studies will be carried out to define, characterize and determine the amount of inter-regional connectivity of the river flow in different regions depending on multiple parameters. The Phase Transfer Entropy (PTE) approach will be used to show the connectivity of the interregional river flow relationship. |
Opportunities for Networking | In this project, a powerful prediction method will be created using advanced signal processing methods and Deep Neural Networks (DNN). Thanks to the model to be developed, a preliminary study will be put forward for the prediction of hydro-meteorological data together with the precise estimation of extreme situations. |

Keywords | soil moisture measurements, soil moisture monitoring, soil moisture modeling, water stress, land degradation, sustainability |
Description | The research group of Engineering Geology at Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of University of Pavia is measuring, monitoring and modeling soil moisture dynamics in space and time in different environmental settings. Soil moisture is monitoring in field through different sensors, to highlight the main trends in time and along the soil profiles of agricultural areas, especially vineyards and sowed fields, and of shrublands and woodlands. Field measures have been acquired since 2012 in test-sites located in nothern Italy, namely in Apennines and in Po plain. We are also exploiting reanalysis and satellite datasets of soil moisture to cover wider areas, after the calibration and the validation of these data through field measures. Monitoring data are also used to calibrate physically-based and data-driven models to estimate past or future scenarios of soil moisture, aiming to simulate: i) water movement in soil; ii) water storage and availability; iii) conditions leading to water stress in soil; iv) conditions leading to land degradation in hillslopes vocated to agriculture; v) which agricultural practices can preserve water in soil horizons and reduce the proneness of land degradation in hillslopes. These activities are carrying out in funded projects as: ANDROMEDA (funded by Fondazione Cariplo: https://progettoandromeda.unipv.it), VIRECLI (funded by Lombardia Region: http://www.virecli.eu/), DRIVE LIFE (funded by European Union: https://www.drive-life.it/en/). |
Project Description | Measuring, monitoring and modeling soil moisture temporal and spatial trends at different depths in differerent land uses and agro-environments, in order to find the best agricultural practices and land covers able to: i) preserve water in soil, especially during dry and hot periods; ii) reduce the probability of occurrence of land degradation processes (e.g. rainfall-induced slope failures) in hillslopes vocated to agriculture |

Keywords | Halophytes, Desalination, Sustainability, Bioeconomy |
Description | The Brazilian semi-arid region has more than 1,000 small water desalination units because the water underground is brackish, unsuitable for consumption. These units produce a residue consisting of water with a higher concentration of salts than treated water. Treated water is discarded in inappropriate places such as streams, sewage collection ducts or on the ground. Seen the semi-arid is a region with little water availability, the use of this waste can constitute an input in agricultural activity with an emphasis on halophytes that can provide an opportunity to carry out income generation in a poor region. Sarcocornia ambigua, the first halophyte being studied, has therapeutic properties, is edible in the form of salads or preserves and can give rise to the so-called "green salt". We seek partnerships that can transform this plant into products of added economic value and that can provide benefits to its consumers. |
Project Description | The project aims to reduce the impact of desalination plants operating in the Brazilian semi-arid region through the use of waste generated by these systems in the cultivation of Sarcocornia ambigua, an edible halophyte. The waste from desalination plants constitutes approximately 50% of the total desalinated water, constituting an abundant water source. |
Opportunities for Networking | In the context of this project there are opportunities for companies that want to use the plant to produce food or medicine. Some studies show that similar halophytes are consumed naturally or in the form of preserves and are also used to produce the so-called "green salt" that can be used in food without the harmful effects of sodium chloride. |

Description | Burdur Municipality is the local government in the Mediterranean Region. It works for the people of Burdur to live in a healthy city. The municipality primarily includes urban infrastructure such as zoning, water and sewerage, transportation; environment and environmental health, sanitation and solid waste; police, fire, emergency, rescue and ambulance; city traffic; burial and cemeteries; afforestation, parks and green spaces; housing; culture and arts, tourism and promotion, youth and sports; social work and assistance, marriage, vocational and skill acquisition; It provides or has had it made services for the development of economy and trade. We currently have an advanced biological treatment plant, a drinking water treatment plant and a solid waste disposal and biogas plant. |
Project Description | Burdur lake itself is 4 km from the city center. It is the seventh biggest lake and third biggest salty lake of Turkey. It is one of the 305 Key Biodiversity Areas in Turkey. “Key Biodiversity Area” is a term given to areas that have a special importance for the continuation of species. The lake is home to 85 bird species and is a protected area for several endangered bird species. It is also an internationally important marshy land. Burdur killifish (Aphanius sureyanus) lives exclusively in Lake Burdur across the world. Until recently, Lake Burdur was the wintering location of 70 per cent of the endangered white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala). Lake Burdur has lost one-third of its water in the last 35 years and 80 percent of the sources feeding its waters in the last 10 years. Our aim is to purify the lake water from pollution, to increase the entrance waters to the lake and to reveal the wrong water policy etc. We plan to do this with feasibility studies to clean the water in the house, to train the farmers, to collect rainwater in pools and to determine the water capacity. |
Opportunities for Networking | The European Solidarity Corps program has received a quality certificate and aims to provide services to young people and to benefit them from international opportunities. In addition, by taking part in national and international platforms, it ensures that the concept of world citizenship is adopted within the organization. Project Description | Commercial microwave links (CMLs) can be utilized as an effective opportunistic sensor network for rainfall measurement in both metropolitan and also countrywide deployments. CMLs could unintentionally measure rainfall at ground levels of the atmosphere so they act as an opportunistic distributed sensor network. This measurement seems to be a promising way to further refine existing meteorological precipitation measurement methods, especially as a suitable complement to radar measurements, since meteorological radars measure rainfall and other non-liquid precipitation in much higher altitudes typically above 1 km. CMLs can also ensure rainfall measurements in developing countries where meteorological radar infrastructure is not available and the density of the rain gauge network is sparse, since telecommunication infrastructure is in wide usage in almost every country in the world. However, there can be various inaccuracies that can be overcome by several possible methods, e.g. the effect of wet antenna attenuation (WAA). There are also possibilities of developing methods for more accurate rain distribution based on crossing of CMLs or tomographic reconstruction of rainfall field instead of simple spatial interpolation. The aim of our project is to eliminate all the inaccuracies in the process flow and introduce better spatial distribution methods, so that the results can be utilized by real meteorological national services. |

Description | At Samotics we use artificial intelligence to offer a predictive maintenance solution for customers who wish to both eliminate unplanned downtime and energy waste of industrial electric motors. We therefore provide two solutions: SAM4 Health, which enables customers to predict in advance when their critical assets will fail, and SAM4 Energy, which leverages the power of IoT, algorithms and industry expertise to provide real-time insights on energy usage and generate clear energy efficiency actions and reductions. We can monitor equipment that most predictive maintenance and energy solutions cannot, due to our use of Electrical Signature Analysis (ESA). ESA allows us to installs our sensors away from the asset in the safety of the motor control cabinet which means that we can monitor all submerged equipment such as borehole pumps. Our solution is currently installed on a large scale at most major UK water companies including Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water, Severn Trent and many more. |
Project Description | We are looking for a water utility partner who would like to test our two solutions at their drinking or waste water facilities. In order to make sure that our predictive maintenance solution can appropriately display its value, we would look to design a project of minimum 100 assets - this could be spread accross multiple sites. The project will aim to reduce the overall carbon emissions from the most electricity-hungry assets at water utilities, as well as increasing overall asset resilience as a whole. |

Project Description | I would like to join a project on potable reuse or on wastewater. Water resources are essential for every development activity, not only in terms of available quantity but also in terms of quality. Economic and population growth as well as urbanisation are increasing the number of users and uses of water, making water resources scarcer and more polluted. Water scarcity, due to physical lack or pollution, has become one of the most pressing issues globally, a matter of human, economic and environmental insecurity, and extended droughts threaten to worsen these effects in many areas. Wastewater, whose value had not been appreciated until recently, is increasingly recognised as a potential ‘new’ source of clean water for potable and non-potable uses, resulting in social, environmental and economic benefits. The project will focus on the potential of recycled wastewater (also known as reused water) to become a significant source of safe water for drinking purposes and improved sanitation in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. It will also consider human and environmental health, and the views of the public. Potable reuse is about to become part of national policies in the United States and it has been used, both directly and indirectly, in cities in U.S.; Perth, Australia; Windhoek, Namibia; Beaufort West, South Africa; Singapore; Wulpen, Belgium; Essex, UK. The potential for Europe is enormous and should be studied as a coping strategy. |

Keywords | Demonstration Site ; Red Sea ; waste management ; adaptation ; mitigation ; resilience |
Description | We propose Eilat (Red Sea, Israel) as a demo site to test the project’s results. The uniqueness of Eilat City lies in its ecological assets, its remoteness, the extreme desert weather conditions, and its achievements as a leader in energy efficiency - 100% of the city's daytime electricity is from renewable sources. Eilat was chosen as one of the 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission, which aimed to deliver 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030. Furthermore, we have a designated Smart City team, professionals who are dedicated to implementing innovative and sustainable solutions in the Eilat-Eilot region. We would love to "smarten" our water system and make it more resilient and efficient. Our city is already leading international water projects such as the EU-Funded Project Ô which intends to demonstrate approaches and technologies to drive an integrated and symbiotic use of water within a specific area, putting together the needs of different users and waste water producers, involving regulators, service providers, civil society, industry and agriculture. We would like to participate in the Water4All call (Topic 1 or 2) to improve our resilience, adaptation, mitigation mechanisms, or water management system. |
Project Description | We offer Eilat as a demonstration site for solutions to Topic 1 or Topic 2. Due to its location at the southernmost point of the Negev desert, by the Red Sea, Eilat faces extreme hot weather, regular drought, and flash floods. Thus, the municipality is looking to participate in projects that could improve our resilience, adaptation, mitigation mechanisms, or water management system. |
Opportunities for Networking | We would be delighted to exchange with potential partners and see how we can implement their solutions to our city and monitor its results. |

Keywords | biomonitoring, habitat modelling, sediment management, environmental flow |
Description | Our research group is composed of both freshwater ecologists and hydraulics engineers. Our research lies at the intersection of ecology, hydraulics and geomorphology, and has addressed important and current issues in river ecology: environmental flow and sediment management. In the last years, we are also studying the impact of climate change and consequent extreme events (e.g., prolonged low-flow periods, massive sediment input) on river habitat and biota in Alpine and Prealpine areas of Northern Italy. We apply biomonitoring tools and ecohydraulics modelling to investigate these impacts. We are currently involved in two Italy-Switzerland INTERREG projects aimed at developing a shared and sustainable governance of water resources of the Lake Maggiore-Ticino River system (PARCHI-VERBANO-TICINO project) and the Mera River basin (GE.RI.KO project). |
Project Description | We are interested in participating in a consortium mainly for Topic 1. “Resilience, adaptation and mitigation to hydroclimatic extreme events” and Topic 3. “Improved water governance in the context of hydroclimatic extreme events and international contexts”. Our past and current research experience provides us the necessary background to support projects on these topics. We have interesting case studies suitable for investigating the mentioned topics and whose datasets and research outputs are already available as preliminary information. |
Opportunities for Networking | Within the INTERREG projects we are collaborating with regional authorities, water stakeholders, small medium enterprises, natural reserves, other universities and the National Research Council - Water Institute. Moreover, we have other national and international contacts. If you are interested in collaborating with us for building a consortium, please do not hesitate to contact us! |

Description | At Samotics we use artificial intelligence to offer our 2 AI-driven solutions for customers who wish to both eliminate unplanned downtime and energy waste of industrial electric motors. SAM4 Health is our predictive maintenance solution which enables customers to predict in advance when their critical assets will fail, and SAM4 Energy is our energy efficiency solution which leverages the power of IoT, algorithms and industry expertise to provide real-time insights on energy usage and generate clear energy efficiency actions. We install our sensors from the safety of the motor control cabinet, which means that we are capabale of monitoring all submerged equipment such as borehole pumps, without needing to interfere with the asset itself. Our algorithms and library of failure patterns have enabled us to predict when as asset will fail up to 5 months in advance - and can detect these electrical and/or mechanical failures accross the entire drivetrain. We also use our real time pump curves to determine when for example, a pump is operating outside of its best efficiency point and then provide clear and actionable advice in order to optimise the operational strategy of that pump. |
Project Description | We would be interested in joining any project that is focused on decreasing carbon emissions and/or strengthening maintenance strategies and asset resilience. |

Description | I am an assistant professor at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in the Geography department in Turkey. I hold a PhD degree in geography from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin; an MSc degree in sociology (Global Social Change programme) at the University of Edinburgh; and a BSc degree in sociology from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey. My general research interest focuses on understanding how socio-economic and socio-political constructions affect human-water relations in line with sustainability research. I explore, for instance, how and why corruption is intermingled in the water sector and why we should not narrow down the definition of sustainability in order to be integrative. recently, I explore the vanishing lakes and how water-related infrastructures in the existing socio-political and -economic environment might in the future alert us for creating alternative ways of water grabbing, especially in the so-called developing and transition countries. I use ethnographic research methods (interview, survey, participant observation, etc.) and analysis tools to collect and analyse data. I am skilled in organising fieldwork, with a team or as an individual. I have publications in high-impact international journals on topics like hydropower boom and sustainability. |
Project Description | I would like to participate in projects where I can use my ethnographic research skills to develop a realistic water management strategy for sustainable human-environment relations, especially in so-called developing countries. Keywords | aridity; pedology; metabolites; forests; statistics |
Description | For this project we seek collaboration with partners that are working in the following fields: - Pedology, with emphasis on global warming and aridity, soil structure and composition - Composition of inorganic compounds and soil metabolite profiling. - Statistics with elements of climatology. - The structure of microbial communities (at the 16S and 18S level) and transcriptomic profiling in order to make correlations with other soil analyses. |
Project Description | The goal of this project is to demonstrate that adding soil metabolomics techniques to conventional methods of soil analysis will improve the understanding of the evolution of aridity. This approach will help quantify the capacity of forest islands to buffer the progression of aridity toward field cultures and will provide means of sequestering water in land ecosystems Our team will coordinate the project, perform analyses of functional metabolomics of interstitial water in soil (i.e. community level exo-enzymatic activities), and aid with data integration into specialized networks. We hypothesize that: 1) Exoenzyme multi-tests will be a good tool for functional metabolomics of soil. 2) Specific fingerprints will occur in the composition of soil organics in response to biased enzymatic activities. 3) A combination of classical soil analyses, climate and metabolomics will better describe the interaction between forest islands and progressive aridity. Project beneficial outcomes are: - Standard protocols to monitor the benefits of forest islands on metabolic rates in soil; - Making functional metabolomics data on soil compatible with existing databases for monitoring the progression of aridity in Europe; - Produce a proof of concept soil analysis automated station to monitor progressing aridity; - Help adapt the management of forest islands to the current rate of aridity progression. - Cool off the local microclimate near forest islands and sequester water in soil. |

Description | Projects that need Traceability solutions that have low cost and high scalability, to guarantee the authenticity of the data of their solutions. |
Project Description | The APLET (Autonomous Provenance and Lifecycle Event Tracking) solution is an innovation in blockchain. It is a new type of DLT, developed by us from scratch, based on microledgers, that guarantee the integrity and non-repudiation of the information of the recorded events, also implemented in a peer-to-peer network. This approach offers a new method of using blockchain by introducing significant changes to the information replication process in Web3, providing greater scalability, elasticity, and resiliency compared to current blockchain networks. APLET is infinitely more sustainable than current solutions since it dispenses with the need for consensus and ordering of transactions that is required in currently implemented blockchain platforms, thus avoiding replicating information throughout the network. with the energy expenditure that this entails, but maintaining its immutability. Another advantage of the APLET network is that it does not need cryptocurrencies, so the transactions do not have an economic cost and it is very appropriate for traceability networks. |

Keywords | toxicology, water, aquatic organisms, risk assessment, microbial monitoring |
Description | Hydro-climatic extreme events, especially floods possess a complex (chemical, microbial and toxicological) risk threatening the quality of drinking water, recreational water and irrigation water supplies. In water management, there is an increasing demand for rapid methods to analyse the complexity of this type of contamination and evaluate its effect on aquatic organisms. The Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety (MATE) provides a complex set of processes applicable for the simultaneous analysis of chemical biological and toxicological parameters in water samples. Using data obtained from monitoring and laboratory analysis, a complex human and ecological risk assessment can be performed. |
Project Description | Our research activities include spatiotemporal and biogeochemical monitoring of surface- and groundwaters as well as the laboratory analysis of environmental samples which include the long-term monitoring, analysis, and risk assessment of chemicals, microbial parameters, and microplastics. Complex ecotoxicological assessments (acute and chronic cytotoxicity, endocrine-disrupting effects) and bacterial biodetoxification of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and their mixtures are also part of our research profile. We apply in vivo and in vitro zebrafish tests (e.g., early life stage or two-generation toxicity tests) in addition to Daphnia and algae tests, according to GLP or ISO standards. With our proprietary bioindicator zebrafish line (Tg(vtg1.mCherry), the estrogenic effect of environmental samples can be determined. Additionally, the department can conduct Vibrio fischeri tests for the environmental monitoring of water, colorimetric SOS Chromotest for genotoxicity assessment, and the BLYES/BLYAS/BLYR method for monitoring endocrine disruptors. Using these methods, we are able to evaluate the toxicological effects or conduct risk assessments of newly developed products, methods, and processes. |
Opportunities for Networking | The Department is actively involved in European joint programmes. We are open to collaboration in research and innovation actions, training programmes, or educational cooperation. Moreover, open for tenders and contract-based works as well. |
