Our research group is composed of both freshwater ecologists and hydraulics engineers. Our research lies at the intersection of ecology, hydraulics and geomorphology, and has addressed important and current issues in river ecology: environmental flow and sediment management. In the last years, we are also studying the impact of climate change and consequent extreme events (e.g., prolonged low-flow periods, massive sediment input) on river habitat and biota in Alpine and Prealpine areas of Northern Italy. We apply biomonitoring tools and ecohydraulics modelling to investigate these impacts. We are currently involved in two Italy-Switzerland INTERREG projects aimed at developing a shared and sustainable governance of water resources of the Lake Maggiore-Ticino River system (PARCHI-VERBANO-TICINO project) and the Mera River basin (GE.RI.KO project). |
We are interested in participating in a consortium mainly for Topic 1. “Resilience, adaptation and mitigation to hydroclimatic extreme events” and Topic 3. “Improved water governance in the context of hydroclimatic extreme events and international contexts”. Our past and current research experience provides us the necessary background to support projects on these topics. We have interesting case studies suitable for investigating the mentioned topics and whose datasets and research outputs are already available as preliminary information. |
Within the INTERREG projects we are collaborating with regional authorities, water stakeholders, small medium enterprises, natural reserves, other universities and the National Research Council - Water Institute. Moreover, we have other national and international contacts. If you are interested in collaborating with us for building a consortium, please do not hesitate to contact us! |
